Roman Johann Jarymowycz was born in Vienna, educated in Canada and has served in the Canadian Army and Militia. He holds degrees from McGill University and Université de Montréal. He joined the Loyola COTC in 1965. He has held various appointments and secondments in Canada and Europe; he commanded The Royal Canadian Hussars and was appointed to directing staff of MCSC. He retired in 2000, as Dean.
Military Historian. Lectured at McGill, RMC and The Canadian Forces Staff College. Various articles and books dabbling in the Operational Art including: Tank Tactics: From Normandy to Lorraine (Lynne Rienner, 2001); Cavalry from Hoof to Track (Praeger, 2008). He is also the author of The History of the Royal Montreal Regiment, 1945-1989 (1990).
Dr J is a casual artist whose publications include military humor: RV 81 and RV 83. He worked as associate producer, writer and consultant on various CBC documentaries: The Killing Ground; The Horror and The Valor; The Great War and, The Battle of Quebec, 1759
Jarymowycz is presently an assistant professor with the Joint Command and Staff College Program at CFC, and, writing the official history of The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, scheduled for 2012. Married and lives in Beaconsfield, Quebec and much besotted with his doting granddaughter.
